With great incentives offered by the online prescription drug selling deregulation, pharmaceutical e-commerce has been seeing loads of capitals rush into this field.

Wind Data showed that, currently, 12 mainland listed pharmaceutical companies have started launching their e-commerce plans. The Store (also named as Yihaodian), Alibaba Health Information Technology Limited and Jing Dong, these three online shopping giants have also received online drug selling qualification.

An analyst said now all the companies with certain market volume have received the certificate but they are waiting for the guidelines finally coming out. The online sales of medical instrument is more activated.

Five roadblocks are holding the online prescription drug selling. First comes the prescription access. If the patients want to buy drugs online, they must have the prescriptions written by their doctors. Second is most of the logistics companies in China don't have the qualification of being the third party logistics company, which the e-commerce usually requires. Third is there are certain risks of selling prescription drugs online when drug safety and proper usage information are still not guaranteed in this country. The last two roadblocks include whether those drugs can be paid by the medical insurance departments and clear profit models haven't showed up.
